Released February 7, 1992- F1 Circus
F1 Circus sped into the Japanese market on this day in 1992. For the Nintendo Famicom!
The game features different mechanics along with the standard driving, the play is akin to other top-down racers of the time such as the amazing Micro Machines, but not quite as fun as that one. F1 Circus had 15 different tracks to choose from, so there was at least some variety. Additionally, the game has a mode where the player can take on the role of a team manager and have the computer do all the driving. This mode can also be played in the two-player mode to share the fun with a friend.
In addition to all of this, the game has a time-attack mode, requiring players to really know the courses they’ll be racing on in order to beat the clock.
Overall, F1 Circus is a fun game with some missteps along the way. It’s not an official F1 licensed game, like others on the NES, but it does have its merit.
