Gaming Anniversaries September 25- Castlevania
Released September 25, 1985- Castlevania
Castlevania whipped into the Japanese market on this day in 1985. For the Famicom Disk System!
The year is 1691, Count Dracula has once again risen along with his castle Castlevania to wreak havoc on the land. As he does every 100 years. Luckily for the country, Simon Belmont, a descendant of the Belmont clan of Vampire hunters is ready to take him head-on. And put an end to his evil reign, much like his ancestors did so long ago.
Players will control Belmont as he makes his way through the castle. Fending off hoards of the Count’s minions such as bats, Fishmen, Zombies, and countless other evil creatures. Along the way, Simon will collect different enemies to make the challenge a little easier, such as axes and holy water. Additionally, Simon will need to collect hearts to be able to use these extra items. However, he will always have his trusty whip at his side to take out his foes.
Castlevania is known for its difficulty. Which starts off quite easy and then ramps up quick. Making for an entertainingly frustrating experience.
The game spawned an entire series. However, unlike other games where sequels would be considered far better than the original, the first is still considered one of the best. With the exception of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the PlayStation, which is absolutely phenomenal.
The first is considered one of the top 50 best games on the NES, and this has remained unchanged for as long as its been around.
