Gaming Anniversaries October 17- Wacky Wheels

Wacky Wheels

Released October 17, 1994- Wacky Wheels

Wacky Wheels zoomed into the North American market on this day in 94′. For DOS based computers!

When first trying Wacky Wheels, players may be taken aback by how similar it is to games like Super Mario Kart.

The reason for this is simple, its another kart racing game in that same vein. However, this one is played with wacky animal characters! Fun!

Players will choose to play as one of eight characters, including an Elephant, a Penguin, a Moose or heck, even a Tiger! As with most racing games, the goal is simple. Be the fastest, and win the race. Wacky Wheels includes a few modes to play as well. Such as Single Players, Two Player split-screen, and even a duck shooting minigame. Additionally, there is an online component known as Comm Batt!.
When trying Wacky Wheels, it’s clear the game was ahead of its time. That’s not to say its a great game. At least for me, it had some performance issues. This could be due to any number of things of course. It is a DOS game after all.

The game was developed by the well-known Apogee software. Responsible for ensuring our 80’s and 90’s childhoods were full of fun and imaginative games, meaning its definitely one you should be trying. And you’re in luck! Wacky Wheels is even available right now on GOG.com for the low price of just $7.59 CDN. Or the equivalent in US funds. And well, its worth every penny.

Any fan of kart racing games would do well to try this one for sure.
