Gaming Anniversaries January 23- The Typing of the Dead

Typing of the Dead

Released January 23, 2001- The Typing of the Dead

The Typing of the Dead ran into the North American market on this day in 2001. For the Sega Dreamcast!

Typing of the DeadThe Typing of the Dead is a unique spin on the game The House of the Dead.

In this one, players are equipped with a keyboard, and instead of shooting the oncoming zombies, they must type the words displayed on them in order to kill them. Therefore, you have to type quickly, or else they’ll feast on your brains.

The game ranks players based on their typing speed and accuracy. Additionally, there a handful of other mini-games included helping to hone your typing skills. The Typing of the Dead isn’t played with a controller. it’s played with the Dreamcast keyboard peripheral, which makes it one of only a handful of games on the system that use it. Besides all of the obvious differences, the game is essentially the same as The House of the Dead, which definitely isn’t a bad thing.

Luckily, assuming you already have the Dreamcast and the Keyboard, the game is available pretty readily and cheaply. Try your hand at type-killing zombies and have a blast while doing it. Maybe even learn how to spell!
