Gaming Anniversaries July 11- Street Fighter II Turbo
Released July 11, 1993- Street Fighter II Turbo
Street Fighter II Turbo punched its way to the Super Famicom on this day in 1993. For the Japanese market.
Street Fighter II Turbo, also known as Hyper Fighting. Is a fantastic upgrade to the Champion Edition version of the game. It uses Street Fighter II as a code base and thus will allow players to play Champion Edition in the form of the Normal game mode. Additionally, new settings allow the creation of the Turbo version.
Players will choose between 12 different characters, each with their own unique fighting styles. From Sumo wrestlers to American tae-kwon-do masters. Choosing a character, players battle it out with all 12 characters, culminating in a boss fight with the evil M.Bison.
The Street Fighter franchise is highly regarded still to this day. Moreover, the Turbo version is still considered to be a masterpiece. As evidenced by the recent re-release on the Nintendo Switch console in 2017. In 1993, the game was nominated for game of the year, however it was beaten out by another game. Still, the game managed to sell over 4 million copies in that year.
