Gaming Anniversaries January 6- Space Harrier

Space Harrier

Released January 6, 1989- Space Harrier

Space Harrier blasted into the Japanese market on this day in 1989. For the Nintendo Famicom!

Space HarrierSpace Harrier is famous mostly in the Arcades and Sega consoles. However, it also made its way onto Nintendo consoles in Japan.

The game is an on-rails shooter where the main character will fly in a 3d like plane, shooting down hordes of alien enemies. Players are required to dodge and keep moving while continuously blasting to stay alive. Sadly, it was never released on the NES in North America.

Luckily though, we had it on other consoles, such as the Sega Master System. Which is all well and good. The NES version suffers from slowdown and just doesn’t play as well as it did on Sega’s system. Although it is a fairly faithful reproduction of the game in the arcades, it simply wouldn’t give you the same play experience. To that end, its best to play it on the system it was meant for.
