Ready for some excited disappointment? The SNES Classic Edition is coming!

SNES CLASSIC

Earlier rumors have been confirmed. SNES Classic Edition is happening.

If you were disappointed by the release of the NES Classic Edition, perhaps now you can rejoice?

Today, Nintendo confirmed the earlier rumors of a SNES Classic Edition coming out. It releases on September 29 at a retail price of $80. That’s a retail price. The price scalpers will assuredly charge will be ten fold. So we ask you, are you ready to drop $800?

Here’s the announcement tweet!

The system will include 21 games. One of which has never been available on this side of the planet. Star Fox 2 will make its debut on the SNES classic. The total games list is fairly nice for what it is. We just wish they included a few beat-em-up like Turtles in Time.

The Games

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Super Punch-Out!! ™
  • EarthBound™
  • Final Fantasy III
  • Super Metroid
  • F-Zero™
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Secret of Mana
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts®
  • Mega Man X™
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Yoshi’s Island

Including Earthbound on the system is a huge boon of course. Also, Link To The Past and Super Mario World could’ve sold it on its own. The selected titles are not cheap to buy the carts for, so it seems like a great deal if we can find one.

The NES Classic Edition came out to a great deal of fanfare. Sadly, it seemed that Nintendo would rather leave thousands of dollars on the table than keep up with demand. We can only hope that history will not repeat itself in this launch. At the very least, Nintendo could actually say “Yes it will be limited”.

Will you be lining up for this system on launch day? We probably will be, hopefully, less disappointed than the last launch.
