Gaming Anniversaries July 13- Persona 3

Persona 3

Released July 13, 2006- Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 hit the Japanese market on this day in 2006. For the PlayStation 2.

Persona 3The famous Shin Megami Tensei series releases its third installment, Persona 3 to huge success almost immediately. Developed by Atlus, it quickly became a crown jewel for the company much like the others in the series.

Persona 3 is a hybrid of traditional Japanese role-playing games and Simulation games wrapped in one. You play as a high school student who arrives in a strange town and now must balance daily life with a secret life in the shadows. Finding out you have a Persona and become a part of a team that helps to save the town from the evils in the darkness. Additionally, the player has to develop social links with other characters and people at school or around town to aid them in their development.

In battle, characters will frequently be seen shooting themselves in the head to activate their “Persona”. It’s one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen in a game.

When the player goes to school, they may be asked questions. Getting a question wrong doesn’t mean the end of the world. However, upon getting a question right an attribute may increase. Therefore, it’s very important to pay attention. Moreover, paying attention to friends is critical, as they may ask your thoughts throughout the course of a conversation. Persona 3 carries a very delicate balance of gameplay and it pulls it off perfectly. The success of the first two attributed to its overall success. Further, a remade version came to PSP a little later and ultimately further installments, with the latest being Persona 5 on the PS4.
