Gaming Anniversaries March 28- Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat II

Released March 28, 1996- Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat II pulled into the North American market on this day in 1996. For the Sega Saturn!

Mortal Kombat IIMortal Kombat II is the second entry in the hilariously gory Mortal Kombat fighting game series. This one featured 12 playable characters and 2 non-playable characters. Including several all new characters. The game was originally produced for the arcades and finally ported onto the Saturn several years later.

The MK Characters are fighting in a tournament held by Shang Tsung of the Outworld. Luckily, the gameplay is the same as in the first game. That is to say, old-fashioned one on one fighting combat. Or “Kombat” as it were. Additionally, the Sega Saturn version is famed for its high level of violence, blood, and gore. unlike in the Nintendo ports, which were highly sanitized. Mortal Kombat II also features five difficulty levels. As well as the usual 2-player fights and same character fights, that will really test your mettle.

The main portion of the game is simple. Players will choose their fighter and systematically take down all of the opposing human players until they face off against the non-human characters. Such as Shang Tsung and Shao Khan. As well as Kintaro. To that end, players have a wide range of moves available. Including kicks, uppercuts and special moves that wil vary player by player. Performing them is another story, as it definitely takes some skill.

All in All, this version of Mortal Kombat II is considered to be one of the best. With great balance and mechanical aptitude. If you don’t mind the heavy gore, its definitely one you should pick up and play today.
