Gaming Anniversaries September 20- Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus

Released September 20, 2007- Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus snuck into the Japanese market on this day in 2007. For the Sony PSP.

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops PlusMetal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus is a standalone expansion to Portable Ops. However, this one has no story and focuses mostly on multiplayer.

The game does include what is known as “Infinity Missions”. Players will complete missions and unlock characters to be used in the multiplayer mode. Additionally, new characters exist in Plus that didn’t appear in the original game. Such as Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4, which released the following year.

The game has players embarking on missions and forcefully recruiting new comrades by kidnapping them. Players will have to use stealth and knock out or tranquilize enemies. Then, will haul them back to the truck to be used as a playable character. Occasionally, the stronger enemies will have to be coerced into joining your unit. This will occur over the course of the game. Those characters will remain in holding until they’re ready to join.

Additionally, the game has a recruit via network feature. PLayers will connect to any nearby wifi network, even if it is unlocked and this will recruit a character at random. It can be fun to go place to place and simply increase your ranks.

Players can separate their teams and play as any character they wish.

The multiplayer mode takes place over wifi or ad-hoc with up to 6 other players. Unfortunately, for our purposes, Konami has closed the servers. Players can still join up with their friends locally to challenge each other.

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus sold fairly well, enough at least to presumably help finance Metal Gear Solid 4. The game is not considered to be canon as there is no story.
