Konami and Sony quietly drop Metal Gear Solid Portable OPS/+ To Vita/ PSTV (Sort of?)

Metal Gear

Sony and Konami team up to white-list some (seemingly) forgotten Metal Gear Classics!

For years North American Vita owners were left in the cold wondering why Metal Gear Solid: Portable OPS could not be played on their system. It simply wouldn’t work. There was a brief period a while back where someone at Sony seemingly spilled something on the switchboard and all PSP classics were made available to play. However if you deleted the game after that point, you couldn’t even download it again.

It didn’t make sense. Simply because so many players likely missed Metal Gear Solid: Portable OPS the first time around and have new hardware and would benefit from a much better control scheme.

I even reached out to the PlayStation Facebook page for clarification and was told to just keep checking. BOOO!

Luckily, the official Metal Gear Solid twitter announced its now possible to play these classics on your Vita handheld and PSTV.

metal GearIn a mad rush I immediately downloaded them onto my Vita system and popped the memory card into my PSTV only to discover it still doesn’t work. Deleting and re-downloading did nothing but take up time and I even formatted and restored the entire system and still nothing. The games are however playable on Vita. Weird right? Unfortunately, my Vita thumb sticks are broken. Making playing games like this one nearly impossible.

I reached out to @metalgear_en for clarification and they offered a solution. Simply delete the software as well as any extra data and saves and it should work. Well it didn’t, and for two days I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how to play these two great PSP games on the screen they deserve.

Anyone else still unable to play them on PlayStation TV?
