Gaming Anniversaries December 5- Karateka

Karateka

Released December 5, 1985- Karateka

Karateka kicked into the Japanese market on this day in 1985. For the Nintendo Famicom!

KaratekaKarateka is a side-scrolling fighting game. And it’s actually pretty fun! Players will take control of an unnamed hero as he traverses a mountain into a fortress to save Princess Mariko!

Along the way, you’ll have to face off against various enemies dressed in karate gis. Only armed with your kicks and punches. The game is a little slow paced. However, it produces a nice challenge to the player. After each battle, you’ll run forward to face even more enemies. At the end of a level, you’ll be shown an image of the Princess in waiting.

The enemies get a little tougher as things go on, so don’t expect the game to be one big cakewalk. Moreover, some random enemies such as birds will appear to get in your way. They’re easily ridden by a quick punch to the face of course. That said, Karateka will only take the average player about 20 minutes to complete.

If you happen to be in the mood to play a Karate based game on the Famicom. The look no further than Karateka. The game is also available on home computers such as the Apple II and even the Commodore 64. For players without those systems, there are versions available on iOS and Android as well!
