Gaming Anniversaries October 9- Fallout
Released October 9, 1997- Fallout
Fallout spread across the North American market on this day in 1997. For DOS and Windows-based computers.
Mutants are roaming all about and terrifying gangs of raiders are scavenging what little is left. However, a few lucky people managed to escape the war into the vaults. Developed just before the bombs fell. The player will begin as one of those Vault dwellers. Unfortunately for the people down below, the water purifier in Vault 13 broke, and they ask you to venture out into the wastes to replace it.

Strategy RPG
Despite being a top-down type strategy looking game, the original Fallout game still has a completely open world. Players can venture out from the vault, and go wherever they wish. There are however a few quests that must be completed in order to advance the game. But they are few and far between. Additionally, little has changed from game to
Additionally, little has changed from game to game-defining starting characteristics. They still use the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute set found in the games today. This is an acronym for Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck. Players will assign points to each one at the start and gain more points later to increase there skills. Further, upon leveling up, they will be allowed to choose from more skill sets that directly feed off those attributes.
Combat in these games is all turn-based, like many other RPG’s of the time. Each character has a limited amount of Action Points per turn and may target specific weakness and body parts in their enemies.
The original Fallout is one of the deepest and complex games I have ever played. As a huge fan of the series in its entirety, I can say it’s definitely not one worth missing. Have you tried it? let us know in the comments down below!
