Donald Land fattened up the Japanese market on this day in 1988. For the Nintendo Famicom!

Donald Land is a game starring the iconic mascot of Mcdonald’s. Ronald Mcdonald, or as they call him in Japan, Donald Mcdonald.

The game has the titular Donald traversing various landscapes in an effort to save all of his Mcdonalds friends. Including Hamburglar and Grimace.

The game is a simple action-platformer. Donald can jump, and move side to side. Additionally, he can use bombs to attack the strange creatures that appear to stand in his way. Occasionally, even his brainwashed friends such as the Fry-Guys will attack. It’s important to note that occasionally, some enemies are immune to Donald’s attacks. Its worth noting that the game features some imagery that one wouldn’t expect from a game featuring Mcdonald’s characters. Such as a bone dragon and a disembodied head. This game is absolutely bizarre.

Players must also collect hamburgers throughout the levels. 100 of which will earn you an extra life.

There are several modes of play here. Including a mini-game in which players will order products found at Mcdonald’s restaurants to earn items not normally found in the levels.

The music in the game leaves something to be desired. Actually, a lot, it’s just a looping edition of the Mcdonalds theme song. Furthermore, the graphics are very lackluster. Often represented by shades of brown, as if the world is covered in grease.

However, ignoring the graphics and music and character design, it could be a good game. You’ll just have to use your imagination.
