Gaming Anniversaries November 8- Xevious

Xevious

Released November 8, 1984- Xevious

Xevious shot into the Japenese market on this day in 1984. For the Nintendo Famicom!

XeviousXevious is a classic Namco arcade game. It’s also one of the best ports of such a game on the Famicom.

In Xevious, you play a craft known as Solvalou. Your mission is to stop the attack of the Xevians who’ve inhabited the planet the Humans have taken over as long as 100,000 years ago. It’s up top you to protect the planet Xevious and save humanities last best hope of survival.

Xevious is a vertically scrolling shoot-em-up game. You can move your craft side to side and up and down as well as collect power-ups to increase your shot strength as well as drop bombs to attack enemies below you.

There are a lot of enemies of course, and each one comes in a pattern that it will stick to. The key to getting a good score is to memorize the patterns. The game also has no end goal to finish. It is strictly a score based game. In fact, if you manage to get into just the right position and hold down the shoot button, the game will just scroll on by collecting points that will exceed numbers and turn into symbols. Which is a somewhat fascinating point of the game.

The gameplay is simple and yet very addictive. Trying to get as far as possible in Xevious is no small feat. However, its definitely a great time.
