Gaming Anniversaries November 5- Wave Race 64

Wave Race 64

Released November 5, 1996- Wave Race 64

Wave Race 64 made a big splash in the North American market on this day in 96′. For the Nintendo 64!

Wave Race 64 isn’t your typical racing game. There are no cars and no solid roads. Instead, this time you’ll be racing a Jet Ski!

The goal of the game is simple. Compete against other racers and win by navigating a course indicated by different colored buoys in the water. Red and yellow buoys have to be passed on certain sides to allow a speed boost. However, failure to pass them leads to a decrease in speed. Ultimately winding up in disqualification.

There are Wave Race 64several modes in the game. Including a training mode to help practice, a time trial mode to compete against the clock and the championship mode. Putting you against other racers. Moreover, there is a stunt mode where you must perform different tricks to win.

Additionally, players can create their own characters and even deck out their Jet Skis. There’s a whole lot to do with this rather simple to play but hard to master Nintendo 64 game.

Wave Race 64 ultimately did pretty well for itself. And is still enjoyed by many today. It sold over 2 million copies in the US alone. Truly making it one that has to be in the collection of any Nintendo 64 fan today.
