Released March 26, 1988-Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode
Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode snuck into the Japanese market on this day in 1988. For the Nintendo Famicom!
You are Golgo 13. The deadliest gun-for-hire in the world. Your mission is to get back a vial of the worst biological weapon known to man known as “Cassandra G”. To that end, you will shoot, blast and dive into different locations taking out swarms of enemies and romancing female spies to gain information.
The gameplay in Top Secret Episode is very diverse. Starting as a traditional side-scrolling action game and quickly changing into an on-rails shooter. Additionally, there are cutscenes along the way to progress through the intricate and sometimes confusing story-line.
Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode is a bit a strange game. Hinging between terrible and fantastic. It’s a little hard to understand what I mean by that statement. You see, some portions of the gameplay are really really good, and some will have you crying due to how awful it feels. This could be attributed to the different levels the developers wanted to take this game, as no two levels feel the same, its hard to get an expectation of what should be next. Think of how different Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 is, and you’ll get the idea.
Still, the story is the meat and potatoes of the game.
