Released April 6, 1990- Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos slashed into the Japanese market on this day in 1990. For the Nintendo Famicom!
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos takes place one year after the events of the original Ninja Gaiden. With the defeat of Jacquio, the evil Ashtar has hatched a new plan to plunge the world into darkness. Our hero, Ryu Hayabusa, the fierce Ninja has already taken to destroying all manner of creature sent to stop him and save the world once again.
Just like the original, Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos is an extremely difficult, fast-paced action platformer. Ryu can jump, slash and use special ninja abilities as he collects them throughout the levels. Additionally, he can attach himself to vertical walls in order to reach higher places. A new addition from the original game, just like the dual ninja ability which summons two shadow ninjas giving Ryu triple attack power.
The game tells its story through the use of cutscenes that occur after each level. Furthermore, they indicate what the next level will be like, as each one is different in its own right. With new heights to explore and more difficult enemies to take out, or be taken out by. This one also features wind which Ryu will have to fight through and pitch dark levels lit only briefly by flashes of lightning.
The Ninja Gaiden series has proven quite popular, with new additions as late as 2013.
