Gaming Anniversaries October 16- Super Double Dragon

Super Double Dragon

Released October 16, 1992- Super Double Dragon

Super Double Dragon kicked and punched into the Japanese market on this day in 92′. For the Super Famicom!

Super Double DragonYet another sequel to the amazing trilogy on the NES. Super Double Dragon once again stars our heroes Billy and Jimm Lee. This time though, they are tracking down a narcotics investigator. Who has been kidnapped by the crime gang known as the Black Shadow Warriors.

Players will choose one of the brothers to begin their high kicking adventure through the streets, taking out hoards of enemies along the way. At the end of each level, players will face bosses who will really test their mettle.

The game is once again a multiplayer coop game, this is where it really shines. One player can hold an enemy while another is punching them in the face. Aside from that though, Super Double Dragon is somewhat more of the same. Don’t get me wrong, its another fantastic beat-em-up and fans of the series are sure to love this one too. Overall, it’s definitely passable, however, it hasn’t added anything new to the series outside of a few new characters. Further to that, the game feels rather choppy. Even for Super Nintendo standards.

The game ultimately ended up selling rather poorly, and as a result, Billy and Jimmy Lee were put by the wayside. Years later, we’d see more of them in newer games such as Double Dragon Neon which was published recently. Sadly, even that one kind of missed its mark.
