Gaming Anniversaries June 25- Star Force

Star Force

Released June 25, 1985- Star Force

Star Force hit the Japanese market on this day in 1985. For the Nintendo Famicom

Star ForceIn this vertical scrolling shoot em up game, you play as a spaceship pilot. Piloting the “Final Star” you must shoot your way through various enemies and building structures. The Final Star has two levels of power-ups, making the game fairly difficult. However, it is a very faithful port of its Arcade edition.

The game’s stages are each named after a letter of the Greek alphabet. Additionally, after completing the final stage known as Omega, the game will show what appears to be an ad for Super Star Force by Tecmo, indicating its future release. After which, the game will start from the beginning and no noticeable changes in difficulty or level design will occur.

Despite its very basic premise, Star Force became a very popular game on the system. Selling so well it allowed for a sequel and several re-releases over time. At this moment, the game can be played on many modern consoles, including the Xbox 360 and the Wii U virtual console.
