Gaming Anniversaries June 13- Ghosts ‘N Goblins

Ghosts 'N Goblins

Released June 13, 1986- Ghosts ‘N Goblins

Ghosts ‘N Goblins by Capcom came out to a great deal of fervor in the Japanese market on this day in 1986.

Ghosts 'N goblinsBeing one of those games you either love or you hate, Ghosts ‘N Goblins is a notoriously hard game to beat. Nonetheless, we celebrate its anniversary as being a beloved franchise all the same.

This side scrolling game was spread out over six levels. Additionally, each level must be beaten within three minutes, else you lose a life. Each level also increases in the difficulty department as if each level before it was easy. Arthur, the brave knight is on a date with his beloved Princess, when suddenly, the Demon King Astaroth and his minions come and snatch her away. It’s up to Arthur to rescue her and defeat them once and for all. Arthur has only a lance and a suit of armor to defend himself. upon getting hit, Arthur will lose his armor and have to find a new set or beat the level in his underwear. Other power-ups also appear at different intervals including bombs and daggers. Once the game is beaten, it restarts with an even harder difficulty curve.

Ghosts ‘N Goblins is relentless, yet still somehow fun. Standing as Capcom’s eighth best selling and biggest franchises. Which lead to many sequels and reimaginings over the years. The most recent of which being Ghosts ‘N Goblins Gold Knights II on iOS.
