Released January 26, 1987- Dragon Warrior II
Dragon Warrior II descended into the Japanese market on this day in 1987. For the Nintendo Famicom!
In Dragon Warrior II, players take on the role of a descendant of the hero Erdrick. In this one, the player is once again tasked with saving the world from the evil Hargon. Unlike in Dragon Warrior, where the hero must defeat the Dragonlord.
There are multiple changes made to the overall gameplay of Dragon Warrior II. Such as, the player has now joined forces with two other characters. The map is much larger, and battles can now consist of up to 6 enemies. However, in order to allow this, they had to change the colorful backgrounds to simple black backdrops in battle. And finally, the player can now travel by ship. Making for an even more exciting adventure.
The game’s controls are still a little bit clunky, but it should be no problem to get used to them after just a few minutes.
Ultimately, Dragon Warrior II sets the series up for success. By continuing to evolve and change the systems developed in DWII, developers have managed to keep it running for more than 30 years.
