Gaming Anniversaries July 2- Bubble Bobble
Released July 2, 1988- Bubble Bobble
Bubble Bobble hit the Sega Master System on this day in 1988. For the Japanese market.
The story of two humans who happen to wander into a magical cave that turns them into dinosaurs, Bubble Bobble is famously cute. The game is a hybrid between platform and puzzle gameplay. Bub and Bob must clear each enemy on the screen as it bounces or floats around. Once all the enemies are gone, then the next level begins. Bub and Bob have the power to blow bubbles that they can jump onto to or trap enemies with. Any enemies trapped into a bubble will be eliminated once you jump into them. This will turn them into fruit. Additionally, some bubbles will occasionally float by that contain power-ups.
Bubble Bobble quickly became an enormously popular game, leading to dozens of releases and several sequels and spin-offs. Moreover, the game is known as one of the top 100 games of all time.
