Gaming Anniversaries January 13- After Burner II

After Burner II

Released January 13, 1995- After Burner II

After Burner II flew into the Japanese market on this day in 1995. For the Sega 32X!

After Burner IIAfter Burner II is a simple update to the original game of the same name. Besides a few simple updates with some more diversity in enemies, the biggest new addition to the game is the ability to speed up and slow down. However, the gameplay is largely identical to the original.

After Burner is a pseudo-3D type flying game. Players will steer their fighter jet around blasting at enemies until they reach the end of a level. The levels are pretty short, however, some users have complained of motion sickness after playing. Particularly in the arcade version, but the same can be said of other editions of the game as well.

All this aside, if you can stomach it, After Burner II is a prime example of what a flight-combat game should be. The graphics are great and the gameplay is quite fluid. Although, the controls will take some getting used to. Unless of course, you’re a seasoned veteran.
