Released June 20, 1988- 1943 The Battle of Midway
1943 The Battle of Midway was released on this day in 1988 for the Nintendo Famicom.
The sequel to Capcom’s famous arcade game was ported to the Famicom on this day in 88′. This one play’s much the same as 1942 in that it’s a vertical scrolling shooter. Players fight over the clouds through the skies ironically taking down Japanese fighters during World War II. It’s been speculated after the release of 1942 that developers at Capcom perhaps felt a little war guilt. Clearly, this is crazy, they just wanted to make a great game.
Updated features in 1943 include a health bar and special power-ups that clear an entire screen of enemies at once. Further, the game went on to become a huge success worldwide. It was released on numerous consoles worldwide. However, the arcade version was a Japanese exclusive.
It also has the weirdest Japanese commercial. Check it out below!
